It is quite sadSad Article here...
I'd Disagree. The PSP are still selling like hot cakes over at Japan, America isn't the only country you know :D And you know, everybody uses there ipod touch for gaming  And with only 2 portable gaming systems to choose from really, its still a good market to be in... Don't forget in 2009 the PSP are getting some of its best games from Square and other such as resistance patapon 2 etc..
It's all because of the hackers
Ya just saw that when got on yahoo just a min ago, my thoughts I love my psp and i have a ds but I play my ds more. I wish sony would bring out more rpgs for the psp I dont care if they are old ps1 ports or hell redo them but i know It costs money and they are here to make money not to make my dreams come true. lol
Its amazing really, seeing as how the PSP is so much more capable then the DS with games and even have other features that the DS lacks. As one previously said, hackers, (well pirates more like it) just download games illegally thus crippling the market; albeit the DS the R4. I'm sure if we had more companies producing quality titles things would pick up. Perhaps if they get on the ball and add some great stuff to the PSP store that to would add on to the value and draw more people in.
It was already posted! http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26729524%26tag=topics;title
It is not dying at all. In 2009 there are tons of new games coming out, giving us plenty to look forward to. The PSP is so many things, giving us much to do while we wait, and its portable with all things included: Browser, Music, Videos, Themes, etc. I love my PSP, I'd never get rid of it.The fact is the sales of PSP are slow only because 2008 didn't give as much as it should have, and because Sony is focusing more on ending their pirating issue rather then focusing on their sales and more importantly their upgrades for the PSP. They need to come out with better PSP systems, rather then doing minor upgrades with the PSP 3000 that didn't even work right (scanlines! AND DON'T SAY THEY AREN'T THERE. You're blind if you don't see them)! 2009 is promising new and more inventive ways to increase the PSP importance. In Japan they are selling like crazy, because of Dissida and new games going out. Reistance Retriubution, Phantasy Star Portable, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Mytran Wars, Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, etc. are all coming out next year for us. Also, why would we want a touchscreen? They're dirty, they break too easily, far too fragile, hard to hold the game and use the touch screen at the same time, and they're expensive. I am so happy Sony does not implant a touchscreen into the PSP. I'd toss my PSP out the window if they implanted a touchscreen! Also the DS and Wii are family orintated gaming devices for casual gamers. Of course its going to do well! Plus they make games just to make games, people are going to buy them cause they are cheap in and in a great supply! Edit:Look at the releases for 2009! A LOT OF THEM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psp_games
I came to this forum just to complain about that total BS article. First of all, comparing the iPod Touch / iPhone to the PSP and calling it a viable gaming contender is a complete and total insult to gaming in general. But the PSP is dead? Says who? Last I saw, there's still lots of PSP games around and the PSP isn't selling all that badly. Is the DS outperforming it? Yes. But the Wii is outperforming everything else and the Wii actually kinda sucks (no flame intended, personal opinion of a Wii owner). Just because it isn't the single greatest seller doesn't mean it's not a good, viable product!Previously I said my DS was my favorite system of everything I own, but lately this year it's been PS3 and PSP. There's some really good stuff on these systems now, and the PSP is vastly underrated. This yahoo from Yahoo hasn't a clue what he's talking about.
I love my PSP and no matter what retards such as that Yahoo Editor say (Yahoo is dying itself, lol), I'll keep playing with it. There're just so many stuff to do and play with PSP that I think my lifetime won't be enough. I'm getting old (20 atm xD), and real life is pressing :( Seriously, original PSP games aside, you can play ALL PS1 games with your PSP. That's like crazy number of kick-ass games such as Chrono Cross, Xenogears, etc. Oh and btw, DS has FFIV, care? I have played FFI, FFII, FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX on my PSP, not to mention Crisis Core which DS can only dream of...
Now, only if Sony could bring us more original RPGs, it'd be perfect. As a side note, ''iPOD is a gaming system'' joke made my day.
dont believe too.. many here in our country still buy psp2000. kids,girls.. tsk rather than dslite.
i was just reading the article afew minutes ago. i agree most of what the article says about the psp. it is slowly dying. i just dont know why its not on the legacy platform yet. lol. psp is mainly for gaming, they should focus on the software part. thats where the money is. it looks like nintendo is striking back on sony. wii and the ds are owning them alot. even with afew games released next year, its mostly square enix. and i dont care if psp is selling good in japan. where not leaving there, we dont experience those games released there over here. the psp's only life support is the ps1 games library, slowly being released on the psn. besides that nothing unless you hack it to get the life out of it. and i know it is wrong but what else is there. it looks like sony will be having there first struggle in the gaming world. they have been experiencing good moments before, but not anymore nowadays... better go back to the drawing board and start planning for a good way to get back up. if they dont shape up, apple itouch/iphone will overtake them like what microsoft x360 is doing right now to ps3... edit: if theres an advice i would give to sony right now, its Price Cut! price cut for the psp.
So many people posted this article today! STOP THE PAIN!
i dont think so. i just got a psp. 3 of my other good friends got a psp this year. but just because america is down dosent mean everywhere else in the world is

Exactly! Japan is buying the hell out of the PSP. Monster Hunter Freedom 2G won all the awards it could, and even little girls play it. They just came out with Final Fantasy: Dissida, and PSP sales have skyrocketed in Japan.
That yahoo guy doesn't know what he was saying. Maybe he was paid by other companies to make the consumers think that psp is not a good console so that they will buy those apple-gadget-thing and nds. Remember this yahoo guy!!!! ITS FAR FROM OVER!!!
Wow, this rumor control is becoming a full time job. I sit on here day after day on the PSP boards and try to control the rumors by posting links to trusted websites that offer intelligent and viable information. I must say that although the PSP had one rough year in 2008, that could be all it takes here in America simply because our country is in a reccession right now. Almost any major industry (i.e. Sony) that had a rough year is on some sort of chopping block, wether it be product or indsutry related as a whole. I, in all my years of gaming, don't think the PSP is quite ready to leave us though. Yes, the PSP could use several touch-ups, and this and that, we all talk about it all the time, and yes, a better line of games is crucial to its survival. Over all, i firmly believe that 2009 will be the deciding year of its survival or iminent downfall. We shall see....
Solution: Make games for the system instead of releasing new hardware every year!
You know what the media's like, every Sony product is apparently doomed.
While some of the facts presented in the article may be undisputable, the conclusions this guy makes at the end are uninformed and weak. Seriously, ''What on earth is the point of this useless analog nub of a joystick?'' he asks. If he had ever even played a game on the PSP he would know that not only is it nescessary, but also that any true fan of the PSP has always wished there to be two of them instead of just one. Comparing this to an iphone sounds like something some old person who had never seen either would do. The iphone is a phone with games added as novelty, a gimmick to sell more units. The PSP is at it's core a high end portable gaming device. I'll take God of War to tilting an iphone around trying to move a ball around a maze any day.
